Caring for homeless
LENDING A HAND
Did you know that there are over 250,000 homeless people in England alone (as of Dec 2016)? As Orthodox christians, we need to care for the most vulnerable amongst ouselves - by doing this we are doing what is commanded of us and what we will be asked by our Lord Jesus Christ if we did: "Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’" (Matthew 25;37-40). So this is not optional!
We have started helping a centre for homeless people in Reading called Churches in Reading Drop In Centre (CIRDIC), who provide shelter and food for vulnerable people. We are providing both "scheduled" (at certain times of the year) and ad-hoc donations, both financial and of food, toiletries etc.
Please let Fr John if you would like to help. Thank you!
